Who cares?

Who cares if it matches?
Who cares if it’s in style?
Who cares if it’s some high dollar name brand?
Who cares if someone says you should dress for your size, body type, gender or age?
Who cares if it’s “unprofessional” to be too bold?
Who cares if bright colors are “too much”?

Why should what anyone else thinks or cares about influence what YOU wear or how you express yourself?

I know it’s not easy to go against the grain. I know it’s scary to risk judgement and ridicule, and to listen to that little, childlike voice that says “but THIS is what feels right” instead of what everyone else has to say. I know one of our most innate desires is a feeling of belonging and acceptance and we strive for that by trying to fit in. I know it’s a struggle to fit in yet stand out, and what many of us really want is to stand out in our own unique ways.

And I also know anytime I find myself over analyzing my own style, my own voice… my own flavor for life, I find myself plagued with stress and anxiety. And I know when I decide to embrace my inner creative spirit, and let my inner gypsy girl play, that’s when my business and life start thriving.

It’s a paradox sometimes, this whole “build an empire, save the world, but ultimately be happy and at peace”. What a balancing act of constant self awareness, acceptance and observation it all is.

So, the takeaway is this. Go do something bold today that you’ve been hesitant about doing. Wear the bright lipstick, the shirt that’s not “age appropriate”, the swimsuit you bought thinking you’d “get your bikini body” for summer and has been left in the closet because you didn’t reach some BS body size goal. Do something over the top for YOU, not merely for the sake of being over the top, but for the sake of tuning in and listening to that wild spirit of yours that so often gets shoved in a box, told to be quite, to act this way, walk this way, talk this way and dress this way. For me, fashion, jewelry and makeup have always been little acts of rebellion that allow my wild child to come out to play. Have fun with it, they shouldn’t be things that come from a place of fear, stress or anxiety. Your intentions and thoughts are everything here.

Happy expressing.
