Diet food ads and BS

PSA LADIES!!!

Something that gets said a lot is “there are good calories and bad calories” as though these units of energy have souls or something.

While there is a lot of truth to the nutrient components of say an apple versus a donut, in the grand scheme of things calories of any sort DO matter and effect your body similarly, especially when it comes to simple carbs (carb for carb for example).

This ad is part of the issue of confusing women into thinking one simple, sugary carb is better than another (good calories versus bad).

So a well meaning, health conscious women picks this up at the YMCA while on the treadmill (like I did) and sees this ad. It looks like this cereal is a great, tasty substitute for the cinnamon roll and off to the store she goes for this and skim milk to have in the morning. The problem is the calories, carbs and sugars from the roll versus the milk and cereal, on an empty stomach and with no protein will impact her health, metabolism and body fat the EXACT same way. That’s largely in part due to the insulin and blood sugar surge she will have which will also set her up for a energy crash and severe cravings later in the day. All this continues the vicious cycle of endless hunger and increased weight gain, while she becomes increasingly frustrated because she’s “eating so much better”.

The last way this jacks with the body and metabolism is you’re rarely eating a single serving. You often end up eating the same number of calories by bigger servings since you think “this is healthy, no need to restrict”.

You have to sort through the advertising bullshit to get to the real knowledge, and magazines are rarely a valid source of legit health info. In fact they are one ad and product plug after another and waste a lot of women’s time and dollars.

The very best thing you can do for your health and weight is start eating real 100% whole food. Your body will self regulate so many things if you just start there.

Before you’ve mastered that, it’s honestly pointless to focus on macros or calories.

Have you ever been tricked by diet products? I remember at 16 I drank slim fast and ironically ate special K like they were going out of style. Ya live ya learn!
